As you can see by now, I love my vintage styling. I especially love the hair parlours and make-up artists that specialise in the looks of eras past. One such establishment that’s creating a buzz in my native Northern Ireland is the marvellous Vintage Rocks Hair Parlour. Nestling in a south Belfast suburb, people have been known to jet in from England to get their hair seen to by Clare Afshar and her team:

The ladies who work there know their stuff, and the reputation and testimonials tell you that they really listen to the client and make damn sure they’re happy with the look and service they receive. All this and cupcakes served with hot drinks in proper china. I don’t think you could ask for more!

The look and feel of the salon is like stepping into your perfect vintage, girly dream. Check it out:

This being a wedding website, I asked Clare about what the parlour does in the way of brides and grooms and hens and so on:
WOW: What can a bride-to-be expect from Vintage Rocks for her wedding hair planning?
Clare: Firstly, I like to meet my brides, arrange a consultation, then drink tea and listen to all their ideas; hear about their plans and get to know them. We discuss hair options, and talk about my availability and prices. Once this is all set, I remain in contact, and through trials and other little mini-consultations, we plan their hair. I love that extra personal touch. Its great seeing their ideas grow.

WOW: Do grooms get a look-in on the wedding day styling?
Clare: Yes, we certainly do style for the grooms, too! Both hair and beards!

WOW: Vintage styling is getting popular with the hens these days. Do you have a service that gets the ladies ready for their hen do?
Clare: We cater for hen parties of all sizes, but instead of being a novelty gimick, we offer a pampering experience with beautiful hair.

WOW: That’s right up my street! Pampering then partying. So, what inspired you to set up the business?
Clare: I always wanted my own parlour: a place where everyone that stepped in felt relaxed and welcome, and left feeling amazing and beautiful!

WOW: Do you have any business tips?
Clare: Best business tips I can offer are to keep moving, keep challenging yourselves to be better, and keep your passion!

WOW: What’s your motto?
Clare: My motto, if I had one, would be ‘we rock at what we do!’ And it’s true!

WOW: Tell us about your own wedding day…
Clare: It was magical! Set in the Mourne Mountains, close friends and a good, relaxed atmosphere.  I wore a gold lace dress I had made that I felt very beautiful in. It was a bohemian style, vintage-inspired dress with lots of old beads and lace. Very earthy and natural.
WOW: That sounds idyllic! Relaxed weddings are totally the happiest, in my opinion. Aw, thank you ever so much for chatting with me. I love the salon, and the styling, and everything!
