Thanks to one of my best friends ever, I’m a hopeless devotee to everything Smiths and Morrissey. The DJ at my wedding played about a hundred Smiths/Moz songs for me. Good man!! So, when I clocked this engagement shoot, I wasn’t hanging around asking to feature it on the blog!
I’ll hand over to the lovely Lauren to tell you all about how she met her man Warren, the proposal, and their fabulous photographer, Matt Bowen (whose work I found through the brilliant So You’re Getting Married blog).
Warren and I met whilst working on the same ward at Macclesfield Hospital. Warren works as a physio technical instructor and I’m an orthopaedic staff nurse. And yes, our names do rhyme!!
Warren caught my eye as he was the only person I knew who would wear shorts all year round! He claims it was to move round patients easily; I still think it’s to show off his very impressive legs…
After three years together, Warren decided to use a family get-together to pop the question. My mum, who was in on the occasion, was very excited, which I thought was strange, considering we had only gone round for dinner. Plus the champagne was out… Whilst I was deep in conversation with my eldest sister, Warren came over to ask me the most important question of my life, which I thought was would I like more champagne! Holding my glass out for him to fill up, he took my hand, and in front of all my family took the traditional bended knee, and in the words of The Smiths said, “Would you like to marry me, and if you like you can buy the ring.” Actually, he’d bought a beautiful ring!
Our wedding photographer, Matt Bowen, introduced us to the idea of an engagement shoot to get us used to being in front of a camera for our big day.
Warren has loved The Smiths and Morrissey since he was a teenager, and since being with Warren, I’ve grown to love them as much as I love him. On meeting Matt, our similar musical tastes became apparent, and he suggested that we have our engagement shoot at Salford Lads Club. When we take photos at home of our children, the best ones are the most natural and relaxed ones, and that’s exactly the style of shoot we wanted. And Matt delivered! He added a quirkiness from the unique location, while still keeping the romantic feel of the occasion. There is no need to Panic with Matt Bowen he certainly is a Charming Man!
Thank you, Warren and Lauren and Matt for sharing your cracking engagement shoot with us. Every Smiths fan should totally do this.
You can see their wedding day over on the brilliant So You’re Getting Married… blog!
