When you think of a typically English spring day, with its beautiful blooms, little churches, manor houses and classic cars, this is the wedding that gathers all those things up in one stylish fell swoop. Add in an English rose bride and a devilishly handsome groom, and it’s a picturesque romance story. Anouska and James have nailed the quintessential English country wedding style. Come and see…
We were looking for somewhere near my family home in Sussex, and we loved Ghyll Manor’s grounds and the facilities with a wedding area away from the main hotel with 14 rooms for our guests to stay in. It was really important for us to get married in a church, so the fact that there’s a church opposite Ghyll Manor was a massive selling point!
How They Met…
James and I were at drama school together. He was in the year above me and we never actually properly met whilst he was still there. We started talking on Facebook and it all started from there – so, yes, we did technically meet on Facebook!
We went to Paris for a mini break, and on the first night we were walking along the Pont des Arts (also known as the lovers’ bridge), and James got down on one knee and asked the question, which was followed by a gorgeous meal and lots of champagne!
The bride made all the stationery herself. No mean feat. She also made the confetti cones, the orders of service, and the name cards, which saved them a fair amount of money, she tells me.
My advice would be ‘be organised’! It was a running joke that I was crazily organised and everything was sorted months in advance. But it meant that if there were any small problems, they could be sorted our early with no stress, and so the lead-up to the wedding was very stress-free and we could just enjoy ourselves.
Also, make sure that your bridesmaids/ushers/best man know all of the things you would like their help with on the day, then you can enjoy the day and know that everything will run smoothly.
