Oh, the beautiful Best Day Ever! An eye-catching range of wedding stationery that brightens up my Instagram and appeals to my love of all things art and design. There’s a little something for everyone from the retro ’50s feel of Strawberry Shake (think the Pink Ladies waiting in a diner for Elvis, throwing around phrases like “he’s a dreamboat!”), to the classic bride’s dream come true in the form of Tuscan Romance.
Not only did the lovely Mirlah, who owns Best Day Ever, agree to be interviewed about her stationery, business and inspirations, but she has very kindly given you almost-weds an absolutely cracking prize giveaway to get involved in. So amazing! Check it out at the end of the interview, and know that I am very, very envious.
What made you decide to set up your company?
I’ve always been creative, but it’s always been a sideline hobby thing, so when I realised I wasn’t getting the buzz from my then marketing job, I knew it was time to seek out my passion. It all started with working with other amazing wedding suppliers, writing blog posts, creating mood boards and generally being immersed in the wedding world. Then came the friends, family, friends of friends, who were getting married or having parties and wanted stationery designing for them. It was here I found my buzz! Creating wonderfully pretty stationery for people’s Best Day Ever! I love it. I wish I’d realised it sooner!
What inspires your designs?
I find I’m constantly being inspired by so many different things. I was literally inspired by a print on some pyjamas the other day, so absolutely anything goes! Wedding trends sometimes play a part in steering the direction of a new collection, but often it’s as simple as wanting to keep things pretty, quirky, with a vintage twist. I think the seasons have a lot to do with my current colour choices. I’ve been playing with lots of pastel shades, and I’m looking forward to creating different designs as we move through the year. I’ve got my eye on deep plums, greens and gold.
Do you have a favourite range?
Ooo, that’s a tough one. I like them all for different reasons. Maybe the Stripe Me Pretty collection. I just love the mix of bold stripes, vintage shapes and floral elements. It looks great in so many different colours, too. I created this design for a recent styled shoot with Darby & Joan, and seeing it all come together was fab! I love seeing the bigger picture and how a stationery design could set the tone for the whole wedding day.
Which illustrators/artists do you admire?
Completely non-wedding related, but I just LOVE Marc Johns. His simple illustrations along with his silly and witty captions just make me laugh. His style is just so carefree, and it always reminds me to not take life to seriously. He also has a few motivational quotes too; gotta love those.
Any business tips?
I’ve freelanced for a good few years now, but since setting up Best Day Ever it’s been a fantastic journey and a definite ‘learning curve’. My advice would be: get out there and talk to people, in and outside of your industry. One of my fave phrases is, ‘People are just people, you shouldn’t be afraid of them.’ And it’s totally true – who knows where a simple ‘hello’ could lead? Social Media is my best friend right now, and I love sparking off relationships online!
I love saying ‘Yes!’ to new opportunities and seeing where they take me. Don’t be afraid of failing, and always think of the ‘what ifs’ in a positive way. If something works out, then WOOHOO! If it doesn’t, you’ll learn from it. Win, win!

What’s next for your company?
I’m really excited for the year ahead. I’ve got so many ideas that it’s difficult to know where to begin. I’ve got lots more Ready to Rock designs on their way, and I’m involved with some fab styled shoots in the summer. I’m looking forward to getting stuck into bespoke designs, too, because there’s nothing like taking someone’s initial idea and making it come alive!
Further down the line, I’d love Best Day Ever to become a one stop shop for all occasions. Our mission statement is to ‘celebrate the big, the small and the fabulous’ and I hope to take the business into new territory – I’m thinking birthdays, baby showers, anniversaries… the list goes on!
Do you find yourself doodling designs everywhere?
Absolutely! I’ve got a box full of scrap bits of paper, filled with ideas and my ramblings. I hope I can make sense of them when it comes to it. I’m always writing lists, brainstorming, and I love a spot of digital doodling, too.
What’s your favourite typeface?
I’ve recently gone on a bit of a font spree, and I can’t wait to use them in some new designs. My favourite at the moment is ‘Rolling Pen’ by Sudtipos. It’s just so beautiful and fluid, but still legible. Perfect for adding a touch of whimsy and elegance to wedding stationery.
Music for your own wedding?
I’m getting married next year in June (EEK!), and we’ve got lots of ideas floating around at the moment. I won’t give too much away, but we’ve thought about You & Me by Disclosure, ft. Eliza Doolittle, Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Redding, English Rose by The Jam, Video Games by Lana Del Rey, and maybe Rather Be by Clean Bandit, ft. Jess Glynne. A bit of a mix :)
What’s the story behind your company name?
I’m a bit of an excitable soul and like to see the best in everything. Even if it’s just getting 20% off at ASOS, I’m like “YES! Best Day EVER!” So the name reflects my personality as well as a wedding day being one the best days of couple’s life. I wanted the name to conjure up a feeling of excitement, fun and happiness, and I think it does just that!
