If you follow Hello May on Instagram or Facebook, it won’t be long before you discover the beauty Liv Ludelius creates on the featured models and brides. Liv is a an incredible make-up artist, with the emphasis squarely on artist, whose work brightens up my various social media feeds. Her style is modern to the max, and yet the bold looks she creates aren’t over-the-top, but rather sit perfectly with each of her subjects, making them look stunning and confident. Love her.

I got in touch with Liv and asked if I could interview her alongside showing you some of those gorgeous make-up looks, and I’m so glad I did because not only are her answers inspiring and right up my alley, she is a genuinely lovely person. Someone I’m very glad I’ve met via this blog. If you’re undecided about having a pro do your wedding make-up, I think this post will push you into the affirmative!

The Interview

WOW: Top make-up tip for brides?
LL: Stay true to your style; if you usually don’t wear any make-up, keep it light on your wedding day – you want to look like yourself. The same goes for make-up lovers that even wear red lipstick when they go to get groceries: if you have a look, stay true to it, and get an expert to help you with the details. It’s a good idea to invest some time and research to find the right make-up artist.

WOW: What made you get into styling and make-up?
LL: I’ve done this for as long as I can remember. It was only a matter of time before it would turn into my profession. I love creating and working with people. I studied fashion design as well as make-up artistry extensively, and I love every bit of my job.

WOW: Whose work do you admire?
LL: I’m inspired by movies, arts, fashion, and often real people and their love stories. I love Wes Anderson, David Lynch as directors, and I admire Alexander McQueen, Viktor & Rolf and Marc Jacobs when it comes to fashion.

WOW: What inspires the looks you create?
LL: When I work with brides or celebrities, it’s all about their unique style and personality, as well as their features and colouring. Whenever I do conceptual work for fashion/editorial photo shoots, I get my inspiration from nature, movies and arts.

WOW: What words or inspirational phrases do you live by?
LL: Do what you love and love what you do.

WOW: If you could make anyone over for their big day, who would that be?
LL: I’m not that big into gossip and following up what celebrities are up to, but I do love Cara Delevingne’s style and would love the chance to be her make-up artist on her wedding day. And I would love to do Cate Blanchett’s makeup if I had to choose a movie star.

WOW: Favourite products ever?
LL: Chanel Vitalumiere Foundation, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector, By Terry concealers and Nars lipsticks.

WOW: What books/magazines/websites do you read?
LL: I mainly read inspirational books like biographies, health, and business related books I love to grow my knowledge. Magazines are a different story – I love browsing through international editions of Vogue, and I love Hello May magazine for weddings. Websites change all the time. I do like Pinterest a lot; it helps my gathering and visualising ideas very quickly.

WOW: What’s been your favourite styled shoot so far?
LL: There are a few favourites actually, but if I had to pick only one it’s the ‘Minutia‘ editorial that I did for Hello May print magazine. It’s very simple but powerful.

WOW: What music did you or would you choose for your own wedding?
LL: That’s a secret as I’m planning my own wedding right now! There will be a great mix of classics, motown, disco… And lots to dance to. I do love the playlists of The Flashdance – look him up, he is a little bit amazing. I wish I could get him over to Australia. On this note, maybe I should try and send him an email, you never know right?

WOW: What’s next for the business?
LL: I do have quite some exciting plans, and hope to get closer to them in 2015. I want to work on more editorials and more conceptual work, travel more internationally for work, and I would love to launch my own line. I hope to meet many more creative, fun brides to develop exciting concepts together.

I think Liv’s vision is wonderful. I love the power in her make-up looks that also have a subtlety. Hard to do, she does it, check her out.
