Satin and Tat Alternative Wedding Stationery 2

Some brides and grooms like flowers on their wedding stationery, others like polka dots, but what if you like zombies? Who will design you something like that?! Not John Lewis, for sure. So, when it comes to sourcing the more leftfield of stationery, a place where the undead, the ravens, the apothecary paraphernalia, the skulls, and the moths reside, the answer to the question of who you might call is the superwoman who goes by the name of Sharon of Satin and Tat.

Sharon’s service is impeccable – I know this from experience because she has branded my preloved bridalwear label, No Debutante, and it is BADASS!! Cannot wait to reveal!! She’s brilliant to work with, and knows just what you’re talking about in terms of what you want from the get-go. Add in endless patience and a genuine enthusiasm for making you a fabulous design, and it’s a winning relationship. Just what you need for something as personal as your wedding stationery!

Each design is fully customisable, and if you don’t see something you like from the range, but you like the general vibe of Satin and Tat, then Sharon is more than open to discussing bespoke designs.

I asked her some questions about her brand and products…

The couple that orders my stationery is…

Stylish, a bit quirky and the kind of people that like to do things differently. My stationery is definitely not for couples who are just following the herd, but is instead geared towards brides and grooms who want their big day to be as unique as they are.

My design inspirations come from…

I’m inspired by fashion, photography, tattoo art and album covers. I’m really influenced by designers like Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, and my obsession with ‘Cabinets of Curiosities’ has led to some of my more vintage style designs. I used to be a photographer, so I take a lot of ideas from photography and use my own photographs in my design, too!

My heroes are…

Erm…is it a bit cheesy to say my mum? She’s the person who taught me about art and how to draw. She’s also the reason I went to primary school with pink streaks in my hair, and told the other kids that David Bowie was better than Kylie Minogue. My mum’s influence was key when I was creating Satin and Tat; I dread to think how twee and boring my designs could be if I had a normal mother.

My theme tune is…

I’d love to say a song that’s really cool…but I’m really not that cool. So to save embarrassment, I’ll keep that one to myself!

My company name is Satin and Tat because…

The name of my business is a lyric from one of my favourite Bowie songs, Queen Bitch. Could I have said that was my theme tune?? NO! Because I’m pretty sure it’s about a transvestite! But there is some method to this! The ‘Satin’ bit makes me think of weddings, while the ‘Tat’ bit is a little reminder that weddings don’t have to be cutesy and twee. My designs are beautiful and romantic, but always have an edge.

I set it up because…

When I was organising my own wedding, I did everything myself. I made my centre pieces, made my own veil, and even did the alterations on my bridesmaids’ dresses! This was a very bad idea! Doing everything myself was all pretty stressful. The only bit I really loved was creating my stationery! So I kept doing it, and then brides and grooms started buying it, and Satin and Tat was born!!

My advice to small business owners is…

My advice is ‘know your audience’. Satin and Tat is for quirky couples who are having an offbeat, alternative or vintage style wedding day. Brides and grooms who order from me are usually the kind of people I’d love to hang out with, and having been through the wedding planning process myself, I feel like I really understand my audience and can create designs to perfectly suit their big day.

I shouldn’t have a favourite range, but it’s totally got to be…

Oh it’s got to be my ‘Romantic Zombie’ range!!!!!!! This is my most Marmite product! Couples either love it or hate it. It’s definitely a design for the more risky bride and groom who really love to do things their way! If you ask me there aren’t enough zombie themed weddings….right???

The next adventure for my company is…

Lots of my clients have asked for large prints or canvases of their invitations as a memento of their big day. Personalised wall art will soon be available from Satin and Tat. Perfect for an anniversary or wedding gift (or just to make your walls look badass), they’ll be available in the same awesome designs as my stationery. I have a few designs available at the moment in the ‘Shop’ section of my website with more on the way really soon!!
