White with Two Sugars_Kaye&Sye_070216_236_edit

I was really so excited by this shoot when it arrived in my inbox from Georgie at White With Two Sugars Photography because it’s a cross between a rock the dress shoot, a family portrait session, and a styled shoot collaboration using a real-life couple. The result is this gorgeous and eclectic mix of both wedding inspiration and genuine love. Add to that, those shoes and dress!!!

If you like what you see here, make sure you get in touch with Georgie, who says, “I hope to do further real couple shoots soon, and it would be fab if any of your readers got in touch to volunteer to be part of this project; they just need to wear their wedding outfits again, and who doesn’t want to do that!”

The Story of the Shoot

The shoot was firstly designed as part of a project that I wish to get off the ground where I photograph couples who are already married in their wedding clobber, but either in their home or perhaps in a significant place, but the more mundane the better. So the family portrait of Kaye, Sye and Mr Baker the cat is really part of this project. They’re in their flat, wearing exactly what they wore to get married last year, but obviously amongst their everyday surroundings. This is the first of many shoots I hope to do for this project, and it would be great to have some more volunteers, so please do get in touch! I hope to photograph all kinds of couples of various ages, backgrounds, etc., in their wedding clothes amongst their daily surroundings.

So, to make the shoot really worthwhile, I then got Bianca (my very good friend and make-up artist) involved, who suggested that we make this into a styled shoot. We were really excited to make contact with other wedding suppliers, and so happy to have a bouquet and confetti donated to us for the collaboration of this shoot. We wanted the shoot to have a really natural gypsy, contemporary vibe going on, so we contacted suppliers who would suit. It made so much sense to take the couple into Wick Woods, which is just a walk away from their house, and continue a styled shoot there. Both Kaye and Sye were really up for this, and although it was freezing, we were really lucky with the sun. I had made the hanging hearts and provided the leather jacket. Everything else was the couple’s own. Her gorgeous dress is from ASOS, her incredible shoes are from YRU Footwear, and you can open up the bottom of the shoe and put whatever you like inside, e.g. confetti or plastic bugs like Kaye did.

The bouquet was gorgeous, and Marianne of Sweet Pea Flowers did so well with the woodland style, which fitted perfectly with the shoot. It smelt incredible and was packed with white tulips, narcissi, cabbages and evergreen.

As you can see, Kaye and Sye are gorgeous and both very much in love! Mr Baker is lovely, too; very curious and kept trying eat the bouquet. He has a very cute pink nose, too! Both Bianca and I loved Kaye and Sye’s natural style, which is I think why it worked so well to have them in their own wedding outfits. They both looked natural and comfortable. They both have amazing undercuts, which we wanted to show off in the shoot. Kaye has a bird tattoo on her head, which is beautiful, and then dusty pink hair that Bianca skilfully braided. Each of them has each other’s initials on their wrist, which you can see in the image with the confetti in their hands. She has an S, while he has a K. And Sye’s rings are incredible!
